“Await” is an expression of that feeling you have as you’re walking to the beach; up the access through the dunes, and through the dancing seagrasses you glimpse the sunset starting without you. Your step quickens to meet the open sky and you coax the dogs trotting at your side to “hurry up, just a little faster, boys”. You brush away a strand of hair that has caught in the corner of your mouth. The taste of salt lingers on your lips as the breeze caresses your cheek and you can’t help but smile. This will be a walk to remember…

This was my first piece of the new year. I was hunkering down in the cold of winter and missing my soul renewing beach walks. I was feeling uninspired and beaten down. I stared at the blank canvas for two days... nothing. This canvas felt huge, 16”x20” would be my largest piece to date. I felt small; intimidated. I realized I had to paint my way up, and out, so I just decided to dive in and paint what I missed most.

I began with a bold and sweeping neon pink heart to imbue the work with love. Always seeking to challenge myself, I continued with a daring palette of vivid yellow, neon orange, and teal; squirting and blending the paint directly on the canvas to create the unfolding sunset beyond the breezy seagrasses. To add movement and depth I transitioned from the bright greens into blues and purples and then both added and removed, layers lending an ethereal quality to the scene.   

The charcoal chalk paint I chose for the solid pine frame allows the colors to pop and the artwork to shine. “Await” continues to bring me joy and will elevate any setting you choose. It is ready to hang with D-rings and 30lb coated wire.
